Week 7

 This week I took photos around my hometown of Junction city Oregon and at my home on 2/24 and 2/25.

The historical monument I took a photo of is the old Junction City jail. It’s between the DMV and a museum that’s located in Junction City. The museum wasn’t opened when i went to visit on Saturday and looking online there isn’t very much information about the jail. The information that i did find online was more focused how the old cuty hall being built rather than focusing on the jail. 



We also had to take a photo of a event but the big problem that I had is that these smaller towns don’t have a lot of events that take place, but the biggest event that happens in Junction City is the Scandinavian festival that happens during the 13th through the 17th of August. The photo is the sign that sites to the side of main plaza where most of the shops are located during the event. 


The final photo I got was taken at my home. I had completely forget ten that I needed a portrait photo so I made my sister go outside and pull weeds. That didn’t work because she wasn’t being very expressive so I told her to throw the weeds at me and I got this photo of her.

 My PhotoStory was at the Albany Carousel, primarily focusing on the stages of the carving process and how they create the animals that go onto the carousel. This is a long process that can take anywhere from 5 to 12 years to create a single animal. Since the Carousel project started in 2002 but carving started in June of 2003, they have put over 40 animals onto the carousel and it is still not filled up at this point. They have about a dozen carving projects that they are still working on down in the basement and they have two pieces that are finished and are planned to go onto the carousel this year. Each of the pieces have their own story regarding why they are on the carousel because all the pieces are sponsored by people or groups within the community. Week 8

 This week I got to pick what I took photos of so there’s not much that connects all of the pieces except that I took all the photos on 3/2.  This photo i took is of some vines that we have growing on our deck. It was right when the snow was starting to met and was causing a small stream of water that captured the light from the sun really well. This photo I took outside the Albany Carousel. I think it’s a rundown train bridge that hasn’t been used in many years but im not sure if thats true but it made a really creepy photo in my opinion.  This final photo was taken at Thompson’s Mill State Historic Site which is located outside of Shedd. This is the oldest surviving Gristmill in Oregon. It was an old flour mill that was used during the pioneer times but other than that I couldn’t get too much information because it was really cold and windy.

Lynsey Addario Book Report

    I really enjoyed most of Addarios' early stories about her childhood and when she first started to work in the photojournalism world. My favorite anecdote of hers would have to be when she was photographing Madonna while she was filming Evita, and she was given a telescopic lens because I have personally been there at the beginning of my photography experience.      Her style is very unique as she both has photos of things happening mid-scene, but she also has portrait photos of people in places she has traveled. The photo that was a mid-scene photo that caught my attention was the cover photo that you see when you open up Chapter 9. It's clearly a scene she was witnessing rather than a photo that was a portrait like the photo of Khalid that's at the very end of chapter 9.
