About Me First Post

Hi, my name is Cyanea Williams Wagner and I’m a first year attending LBCC. Right now I’m an art major but I plan on switching my degree over to art history. I’ve been taking photos for as long as I can remember but I started taking photos professionally since my junior year of high school when I took my first photography class. During that class I developed a love of taking nature photos and wildlife photos, with a new found passion of micro-photography but I’m willing to branch out if my comfort zone from time to time.

I decided to take this class so that I can learn more about how I can incorporate my photos into my career even if I don’t go the route of making photojournalism my job. I also enjoy to travel round to museums and explore history and art so being able to wander around and take photos of things that I enjoy and being able to bring attention to theses objects or places that I find interesting. 

Some goals that I have for this class is how to properly format blog posts so that I can make sure that the photos I post have the effect that I want. I also want to bring more attention to certain parts of my community so that other people are aware of these places so that they can explore these places as well. And my final goal is to learn more about the community on LBCC and to learn more about the people that I will be taking photos of. 

This top photo is a photo that I took outside in the courtyard by Mackenzie hall near the water feature. I found that this plant managed to hold a lot of the water droplets from the rains that were happening this morning and it was in front of another building that created a bland background that causes the plant to stand out against the background.
 
This was taken at the book and plant swap that was happening in roast runners on January 12th, they had two separate tables full of books and a lots of plants that were there for people to swap. The pair that were running the swap were very educated when it came to plants and were very excited to have photos taken of the event.

This was taken from one of counters to the right of the roast runners counter where you can clearly see the food that they have in the food case and get a nice shot of the coffee counter where they make the drinks.

 My PhotoStory was at the Albany Carousel, primarily focusing on the stages of the carving process and how they create the animals that go onto the carousel. This is a long process that can take anywhere from 5 to 12 years to create a single animal. Since the Carousel project started in 2002 but carving started in June of 2003, they have put over 40 animals onto the carousel and it is still not filled up at this point. They have about a dozen carving projects that they are still working on down in the basement and they have two pieces that are finished and are planned to go onto the carousel this year. Each of the pieces have their own story regarding why they are on the carousel because all the pieces are sponsored by people or groups within the community. Week 8

 This week I got to pick what I took photos of so there’s not much that connects all of the pieces except that I took all the photos on 3/2.  This photo i took is of some vines that we have growing on our deck. It was right when the snow was starting to met and was causing a small stream of water that captured the light from the sun really well. This photo I took outside the Albany Carousel. I think it’s a rundown train bridge that hasn’t been used in many years but im not sure if thats true but it made a really creepy photo in my opinion.  This final photo was taken at Thompson’s Mill State Historic Site which is located outside of Shedd. This is the oldest surviving Gristmill in Oregon. It was an old flour mill that was used during the pioneer times but other than that I couldn’t get too much information because it was really cold and windy.

Lynsey Addario Book Report

    I really enjoyed most of Addarios' early stories about her childhood and when she first started to work in the photojournalism world. My favorite anecdote of hers would have to be when she was photographing Madonna while she was filming Evita, and she was given a telescopic lens because I have personally been there at the beginning of my photography experience.      Her style is very unique as she both has photos of things happening mid-scene, but she also has portrait photos of people in places she has traveled. The photo that was a mid-scene photo that caught my attention was the cover photo that you see when you open up Chapter 9. It's clearly a scene she was witnessing rather than a photo that was a portrait like the photo of Khalid that's at the very end of chapter 9.
